Seeing old things still being used for their original purpose makes me happy.
So in the past year, what's the oldest Police car you've still seen in use?
I saw an '03-'06 Crown Vic State Trooper in Maryland a few weeks ago. Being in the DC area, it's a pretty rare sight to see older cars still in use. Looked exactly like this picture. (Not mah picture)

I have seen some 95-97 CVs police cars around town every now and than. But we don't worry about rust around here. (Albuquerque Police Dept or Bernalillo County Sheriff I cannot recall)

I *think* the late 80s or early 90s Cherokee marked up with the local PD info here is still in some level of service. I think we've still got some Bronco iis on mail delivery as well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've only recently been able to fully discount the errant Impala of this gen as a cop. Good feeling.

My local fire department had a '95 Suburban and an '02 Crown Vic which was used by the Fire Marshall. Haven't seen either of them in a while though.

NYPD has all manner of unmarked vehicles, I've seen an old Cherokee of early 90s vintage with the full UC strobes and tints treatment.

Very very old 9C1s, a couple departments and sheriffs still use them. I want to say theres an old Dodge Intrepid or two around that are still being used too.

If you want a super old original use story I have another. When I went to Basic Training for the Army @ Fort Sill Oklahoma in 2010 I saw in a Air Defense Artillery training school motor pool '80s GM M1009 CUCVs still being used. I always thought they all got auctioned off in the '90s it was a WOW moment.

I've scene one of the old Caprice's still rolling around Loveland (like scene bellow, but not NY colors), which is funny because we have one of the best funded Police forces in the US.. might explain why every other marked car is a new Caprice, also a whole array of unmarked cars. I don't know if they still have the 2 undercover Jeep Cherokee XJ's or the S10 Blazer they had a few years ago, doubt it seeing as I keep seeing undercover Trailblazer's and Tahoe's, and new F150's popping up.

There is one of these still around here. It doesn't see patrol duty, though. I think it just gets parked places to deter speeders.

I'm curious, what is significantly different about an '03-'06 Crown Vic that you'd notice it over a newer model? I know there were minor differences from '99-'12, but they're virtually identical.
Anyway, there's a Freestar that I often see in my town, Not this exact one (nor the same city), but otherwise the same. It can't be newer than '07.

the state police up here run an old Turnpike Authority Ford van circa 98-00 ish. Big tinted windows, they just sit back and shoot radar, look for bad inspection stickers. I have seen it actively pulling people over too.

The '03-'06 had these strange steel wheels that would only accept those chrome hubcaps, or centercaps. Nothing else. The hubcaps were actually really nice quality, and actually had centercaps built into them. There were some other engine differences I believe, which I can't remember.

Also in Maryland, I've seen a black full sized GMC Savannah pulling people over.

You can see two or three GMT800 (2000-2006) Tahoes in the back of this image. Last I was in Hoover those older models were somewhat of a rarer sight but you'd see them around, usually one or two in the five-truck fleet of officers watching the local high school football games.
I'd bet they (or whatever surrounding department) still use the same old unmarked Impalas, too. Which were always from that first generation of FWD Impalas.

A few years ago I was leaving the Milwaukee Auto Show and saw this....
Not my pic, but pretty sure its the same car. Probably not in service anymore, doubt they spent the time to repaint it to the current white and black scheme.

I too find this extremely awesome. Who knows though? They may have left it in the original scheme.
It seems that the older officers with take home vehicles like to keep them around more.

That impala must be a dated picture, That's at Albany airport and I have not seen one of them there in years. Mostly the new Taurus' or Caprice.

There is probably an infinite supply of CUCVs. There are modern GM trucks (LSSV), but all I've seen are CUCVs they have to be made from the same material as Nokia phones.

Wow, that's pretty awesome! Since CHP retires cars at around 100k, I'm guessing it's used by a motorcycle officer as his regular patrol vehicle when he isn't on the bike.

Still a 2001 unmarked State Patrol Suburban in regular use, mostly pulling over semis.
County has 2, TWO, '98 Cherokees for if it ever snows again (it hasn't in about seven years).

Cars that didn't pan out in my state long term for law enforcement in spite of purchases:
- Magnum (I did see one today for the first time since college!)
- early 2000s impala (all disappeared overnight)
- stratus, intrepid
- new Caprice. SP loaded up on them but every city, Every damn city, got Tauruses

In my area, I've seen a few early 2000s Impalas. Most of them are gone by now though. Haven't seen a Magnum at all. The new Caprice I see from time to time. But the Crown Vic and the Taurus thing are the most popular still. The Crown Vic more than anything still. Huge mistake to discontinue them.
